Cross-River Gorilla
Cross river gorillas resemble western lowland gorillas, but with a smaller build, longer arms, and a more prominent brow ridge. Adult males exhibit a silvery strip of hair down their backs, earning them the nickname โsilverback.โ These gorillas are extremely wary of humans and are incredibly difficult to track due to the rugged terrain they inhabit. Scientists have only caught fleeting glimpses of these primates, and resort to counting nests to estimate their fleeting population.
