Brown Spider Monkey
Known for their exceptionally long limbs and elongated fingers, brown spider monkeys are superb climbers and live in the upper canopy of the forest. Also called variegated spider monkey, these mahogany brown creatures have white triangular patches on their foreheads, as well as long, prehensile tails that act as βfifth limbs.β This gives them the appearance of their namesake, the spider. These monkeys travel in small groups, and sometimes visit the forest floor to drink water or eat soil. They are critical members of the forest ecosystem, as they help seeds to germinate from the plants they consume.
